Turner & George butchers has opened at Gladwell's in Camberwell

Turner & George, the award-winning butcher founded by chef Richard Turner (Hawksmoor, Meatopia, Pitt Cue Co) and butcher James George has opened a butcher’s counter at Gladwell’s in Camberwell.

Richard and James founded Turner & George in 2010 to bring the high quality meat found in Richard’s kitchens to the high street. Their approach involves carefully sourcing meat from farms that reflect their own meticulous attitude to rearing and taste. So whether it is lamb from the Essex Marshes or beef from the Yorkshire Moors, all the meat that Richard and James source meets the highest quality and welfare standards possible.

Every piece of meat supplied by Turner & George has been raised naturally and lived the best possible life free from growth promoters, hormones, and cruelty. Turner & George also work in close partnership with Grassroots Farming – a group of farmers based throughout the UK, who use regenerative farming methods to improve soil, water, air and biodiversity.

Turner & George’s counter at Gladwell’s is an impressive sight - think spectacular steaks hand-cut to order, a custom-built counter stacked high with incredible native breed meat and butchers making their legendary sausages, black-label burgers and nose-to-tail classics like bone marrow and beef bone gravy. Turner & George butchers are on hand to answer questions, give cooking recommendations and take pre-orders for that all important Sunday lunch centrepiece.

Beyond the butcher’s counter, Gladwell’s deli counter will be piled high with hot sausage rolls (made with Turner & George’s sausages) and Turner & George meat will also feature heavily in Gladwell’s new guest chef sandwich series. The new guest chef sandwich series invites some of London’s most exciting chefs and food writers to curate a sandwich with recent guests including; Helen Graves, Ana Da Costa and Henry Freestone. The latest edition is a Turner & George roast pork special and comes courtesy of Hector Henderson (Head Chef of Rochelle Canteen). The Gladwell’s kitchen will be headed up by new head chef Matt Thornton who joins Gladwell’s having worked at the likes of Jolene, Darby’s and Brick House Bakery.

Gladwell’s co-founder Stanley Allen says ‘as soon as I tried a Galician steak from Turner & George I knew they were the only people we could ask to open a butcher’s counter at Gladwell’s. Their commitment to quality and careful sourcing is unparalleled and they are easily my favourite butcher in the London”

Richard Turner: 'Moving into Gladwell's is a very exciting prospect for all of us at Turner & George. The store itself is an impressive space, draws in a crowd who definitely know their food and we're looking forward to becoming part of a culinary hub that is emerging in the area. With our expertise and passion for sourcing ethically sourced meat, we are certain that Gladwell's will soon become the one stop shop for epicureans in and around SE5.'
